How does your diet make you fit?

A healthy balanced diet consists of what and how you eat.This can give you energy, help your memory and lift your mood.Good eating habits are essential to your health and fitness.

Integrate all food groups into your diet to achieve these goals. Especially important are green leafy vegetables and colorful fruits. Filling up with this particular group of foods will improve your digestive system and improve cholesterol levels.Avoid juices as they are high in sugar and low in fiber. These high fiber foods make you feel fuller longer. A variety of colors in your diet make for a more interesting diet with a variety of nutrients and vitamins.

Protein, such as beans and lean meat products, are essential. One problem that exists for Americans is that they eat too much protein.The average serving should be the size of the palm of your hand. Increasing fish in your diet increases Omega 3 oils in your system which is essential for good heart health.Nuts are also high in proteins. Unfortunately they contain oils which are high in fat.Once again the serving portion is key with all forms of nuts.Proteins give us energy and strength.

Whole grains are also essential, but portion control is the key with this food group.Many people avoid grains because of the carbohydrate content.This food group, if they are whole grains, assists in digestion and has many of the B vitamins.Avoiding processed grain products will help in weight control.

As always, in maintaining healthy teeth and bones, dairy is an important form of nutrients.They contain calcium and vitamin D which helps maintain strong bones and heart and circulatory system.Low fat or low sugar products are the ways to get calcium naturally.Many products such as yogurt, cheese, ice cream, and milk offer the nutrients that help support the body.

Other ways to help you stick with your healthy diet is to moderate your portions, simplify your meals, and take your time eating meals.Enjoy meals with others as this will slow down how fast you eat. Stock your kitchen with healthy foods and snacks.Plan your meals ahead of time.Have herbs and spices on had to flavor your foods. Limit your intake of sugar refined grains and salt.Remember water is your ally in being healthy.
